I remember when summer was more than just a flash in the pan.
It was filled with evenings playing kickball. It meant playing basketball with Daddy at the park at the end of our block and going to Abuelito's ranch for a month or more. Days waking up at 10 AM and jumping straight into the pool. Swimming until 10 PM only to do it all over again the next day.
It meant a substantial amount of time off.
Summer has turned into a "blink and you'll miss it" break. I was horrified when I read the notice from Bitsy's school that her first official day is August 3rd. Naturally, she was even more horrified.
Suddenly the lazy days of summer seem more valuable. I want to fill the remaining weeks with everything and nothing at all.
There are dinner parties to be had, trips to the beach to take, and most of all time spent enjoying the kids before they scatter back into their busy lives.
"Back to School" you say?
Bah! Rot!
I am getting "Back to Summer".
