Green

A green thumb.
I don't have one, except for when I make pesto. Gardening is one of the few things that I don't do well. I am reminded of this daily as I live between two gardeners. Each with a different gardening style, but the bottom line is they grow things!
I on the other hand don't. I kill plants. But each Spring I decide to garden. "Event Season" at my house seems to cause this mission to bloom.

The past few weeks been readying the courtyard and porches for Bitsy's prom "Mocktail" party. I have been working outside in the garden, pulling weeds that seem to thrive in the gravel lined courtyard, trimming ivy, and making daily trips to Lowe's, Home Depot, and every other garden center in town.
Plants don't live in the ground for me. They reside in pots. Pots that can be hidden away when their contents wither, pots that can be easily spruced up again. Pots that claim to retain water. Pots that I wish never required watering. Watering, that is where I fail.
Miserably.
Oh, I start out being attentive and caring and continue to be, until the date of whatever party we are hosting arrives. Then my plants receive a Death Sentence.

As soon as the party date has passed I quickly become like a child who has lost interest in a toy. My gardening wanes in direct proportion to the temperature increasing. Suddenly going outside to water plants becomes, well, WORK. So I don't. As the days go by, blooms fade, green leaves begin to wilt, and the only thing that grows is my guilt.

What do I do? Why I steer clear of the windows lest I might catch a glimpse of that thirsting plant. I keep shutters closed and the only thing I draw are the drapes shut.

But this year I have new resolve. I am going to try harder. Be diligent in my watering, weeding and plant nurturing.
After all, if I can "Farmville", surely I can certainly garden.
